10 steps to change from a recreational setting to a technical setting without dying in the process
4. Buoyancy elements
vest – wing or side mount equipment
4.1 wing type jackets are composed of two elements
the continuous harness with 3 D rings and adjustable strap, the harness supports the cylinder and wing to your body
it has to be strong
the wing may be shaped doughnut type ( i prefer this because air circulates more easily) or horse shoe.
there are wings with double inflator but i do not aspire much confidence in these unless you do meticulous maintenance so i leave these out
4.2 dry suits
5.1 gauge or manometer
the simpler the better avoid using batteries
if you use double tanks or single bottle you only need a manometer
length for mono or twin cylinders are around 56cm and 15cm for side mount
personally i really like suunto sk7 its great quality and a bit higher in price but its fully justified the belt isnt particularly comfortable but there is the option of a elastic support highly recomended
today many digital compasses are being brought to the market, truth is that they are very accurate and have the advantages of marking way points
5.3 two dive computers or a dive computer and depth tables
the world of computers is one that is forever evolving and fast, they are of high quality
the first choice would be wrist watch a kind of computer just to dive
it strongly recommended that it has at least the enriched air function would be desirable choice of several gases, trimix the more the better
do you prefer pc and laptop tables or both?
6 cutting tools, carabiners and fixing systems
it is advisable to have 2 cutters knife or scissors easily accessible by both hands or one at least
to set the gauge flash light and long hose second stage you can use two types of main fixings
1 DIR knot , thread, snap and glue
2 fixing using an o- ring , a flange and a carabiner
7 lanterns= lights
at least 2, a primary focus of increased capacity enough to last most of the of the dives i intend on doing,a second focus to last at least the duration of the dive , so im never left without light.
low profile masks are more streamline and easy to empty, they are preferd
open foot fins and complete shovel, long spearfishing fins are preferred
10 cylinders and valves
most of the time you will use twin cylinders or bottles sized 11 or 12 litre bottles
DIN because they are considered safer in case of impact.
